Bitcoin

Designates both the general protocol for issuing and managing the decentralized digital currency created by Satoshi Nakamoto in 2009, and the currency's units of account, which in 2020 were worth between 800 and 1,200 euros each.

Blockchain

A shared file reproduced in each node of the bitcoin peer-to-peer network (which comprises around 10,000 nodes). More generally, a blockchain is a shared file on a peer-to-peer network that evolves by adding pages (called "blocks") linked to one another (also known as "chained"), and which is monitored by all the nodes on the network. Pages are linked to each other because, for example, each new page begins with the hash of the previous state of the blockchain. These links prevent any modification of a blockchain by making it immediately apparent.
