4. Reconfiguration process

4.1 Definition

In flexible production systems (FPS), reconfiguration is a process of hardware and/or software reorganization of the system. The aim of this reorganization is to ensure production within a timeframe compatible with the specifications, despite an indeterminate context. The indeterminacy results either from the need to produce products that were not initially planned, or from the need to cope with operating contingencies.
