5. Conclusion

To pose a problem of surface treatment, four essential points must be developed:

  • meticulous description of the material to be treated: material, metallurgical state, roughness, etc. ;

  • description of the surface functions sought: this description will be both qualitative and quantitative; the characterization methods used will be specified in detail;

  • description of the chosen solution ;

  • The quality of the dialogue between designer and applicator is a key success factor.
