9. Width of circulation and stacking aisles

A distinction must be made between circulation aisles and stacking aisles. Their layout is a very important safety factor, and they must be studied very carefully when setting up.

9.1 Traffic lanes

The width of aisles is set by regulations.

The width of permanent aisles must be at least equal to :

  • for one-way traffic: the width of a cart or its load plus 1 m ;

  • for two-way traffic: the width of 2 carts or their loads plus 1.4 m.

It should be noted that aisles reserved for storage and stacking operations are not considered as permanent circulation aisles.
