Coefficients d'activité moyen; mean activity coefficient

The average activity coefficient is calculated from the weighted geometric mean of the cation and anion activity coefficients for a given salt. It is related to the osmotic coefficient via the Gibbs-Duhem relationship and can be measured experimentally. It is commonly used to parameterize a thermodynamic model.

Force ionique; ionic strength

Ionic strength is a quantity that characterizes the concentration of charged species in a solution: it increases linearly with the dissociated salt molarity, and directly influences the activity of chemical species in the solution. It can be expressed in different composition scales: molalities, molarities or molar fractions.
