7.1 Adsorption rate. Shock efficiency. Quantity adsorbed

The maximum rate of adsorption at a gas-solid interface is the rate at which gas molecules collide with the surface. According to the kinetic theory of gases, the number Z of molecular collisions per unit area and time, or shock frequency, is given by the Hertz-Knudsen relation:
