5. Effects of collisions on Doppler line broadening

5.1 Autocorrelation function

The Doppler effect is one of the main causes of spectral line broadening. However, according to our previous methods, we considered Doppler broadening to be statistically independent of other causes of broadening and, in particular, collisional broadening. Thus, the profile is obtained by performing the convolution product of the Doppler profile and the collisional profile, which is, of course, an approximation whose effects we will consider in this paragraph 5 .
