7. Conclusion

The evolution of image holography is essentially conditioned by the recording medium, the coherent light source and digital image processing.

Dialogue and work between researchers from universities, the CNRS, institutes and industry have already led to the identification of the desired areas of development: near-real-time acquisition and processing of holograms, compact and easy-to-handle equipment at lower cost, insensitivity to the environment, the ability to record both small inaccessible objects (endoscopy) and large objects, and color reproduction.

There are technological barriers, which will be overcome if we change our mindsets: we need to enter the age of the photon, so to speak. It's more a cultural problem than a technological one.
