4. Significant effort savings

Every mechanism has a limit in terms of effort gain, even in the toggle mechanism, which theoretically has a gain that can tend towards infinity. In practice, it will remain on the order of magnitude of 10. This is a familiar situation with gears. If the reduction ratio to be obtained is high, several gear trains must be connected in series. The same applies to force multipliers. The basic principle is to connect force multipliers in series (figure 31 ).
